    I’d sat on two-thirds of this short story for the best part of a year and could think of no logical way of ending it. Then I re-read it, realised that logic had little to do with any part of the narrative and committed myself to finishing it; if only for my own enjoyment and no-one else’s.

    It’s very first-draft, and while that doesn’t excuse its content it does provide me with some sort of barrier against criticism.
